Cecilia Orta-Allende was a Puerto Rican artist who was unappreciated by her peers, but was an extremely talented artist. Rather paint conventional landscapes and portraits she chose abstracts. This Madonna was painted in 1961 which reveals she was ahead of her time. Cecilia studied art in Mexico and taught in public schools on the island. She also was a dear friend of mine and visited my home quite frequently during the 1970's. She gave me this painting during that time. We both lived in Carolina, Puerto Rico where she lived and died. A section of the Carolina Fine Arts School is now named after her. Not many of her works exist today so I wanted to share this one. Thank you for viewing.
