Description
This photo was taken at the Newark Earthworks in Heath, Ohio. There are several Hopewell Indian Burial Mounds located here. The area is immense and we were told that Stonehenge is minuscule in size compared to this site. It covers over 206 acres of land and is operated as a state park by the Ohio History Connection. People from around the world travel here to gather information about this indigenous people who lived from 400 BC to 600 AD. It is also being considered for a future UNESCO World Heritage site due to its historical significance. The Hopewell indians were quite sophisticated in their activities and relied upon the moon ad sun for their spiritual guidance.
